Health Care Company Refuses one Form of Technology

ASA Opts for True Customer Service Over Phone Recordings
The Pittsburgh-based health care company Automated Security Alert has a shockingly good record for taking care of their clients. The health care technology company is devoted to keeping senior citizens and physically disabled persons in their own home instead of in assisted living – and their clients have a 46.42% lesser rate of hospitalization. Far from using only push button medical alarms to care from their clients, they also offer electronically monitored medication dispensers, monitored smoke detectors, fall detectors, and many other advanced products. So for a company that embraces so many forms of advanced technology it is quite surprising to think that they would refuse to use any form of modern technology, but Automated Security Alert has a firm belief that when someone calls them on the phone they owe them the right to speak to a human being. In an era of frustrating and time consuming pre-recorded telephone menus, Automated Security Alert refuses to conform to the idea that people should be forced to communicate their needs to a computerized system. However, this does not only apply to office business hours only, it applies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Jason Seyler, director of Life Safety commented on the refreshing policy, -With many companies using Interactive Voice Response technologies, consumers are rarely ever able to speak with a live person during the first few minutes of the call . . . Automated Security Alert does not use these technologies due to the importance of our consumers. Live people answer our phones at all times, day and night. Subscribers can call our office at 1-800-338-7114 at any time with any questions or concerns that they have.- Automated Security Alert, Inc., has provided freedom and security since 1988 to over 60,000 consumers through the use of technology and services that enable seniors, physically-challenged persons and recovering patients to maintain an independent lifestyle in their homes. ASA’s creative, dependable solutions include medical alert systems (-personal emergency response systems-); fall detection systems; and medication management systems, including electronic pill dispensers and monitored automated medication dispensers. How to Stay Healthy Tips from a Physical Therapist

Contrary to what most people believe, there are people that schedule an annual check-up with their physical therapist to ensure that they stick with an overall health and wellness maintenance plan for staying healthy. When you visit a physical therapist to maintain health and wellness, the physical therapist will do a complete evaluation of your health level and then personalize a treatment plan. The plan includes rehab therapy for any problems that the physical therapist has located as well as a personalized plan for how to stay healthy and live a high quality of life.

Any physical therapist will tell you that patient education is an essential part of physical therapy. The education includes how to improve points in your body which exemplify weakness to prevent pain and injury in the future, maintain flexibility and muscle mass, practice a healthy diet, and much more. So if you pay a visit to a physical therapist here are some basic tips they will provide on how to stay healthy before they go into a detailed treatment plan with you.

Physical Therapy Evaluation

A physical therapist will recommend a complete evaluation so he/she can devise a treatment plan that will teach you how to stay healthy. The evaluation includes a complete review of your physical capabilities including extremity range of motion, spinal range of motion, cardiovascular and pulmonary, neurological function, assessment of your daily living activities, and much more. The physical therapist will then go through your health concerns with you in detail and then compile a plan to help you stay healthy.

General Recommendations for How to Stay Healthy

In addition to discussing your evaluation and treatment plan with you in detail, your physical therapist will also make the following general recommendations for how to stay healthy:

Water: Water flushes all of the toxins out of your system. A physical therapist will recommend that you sip on water throughout the entire day as opposed to taking it in all at once. This will help to keep your cells hydrated and your system free of toxin build up. If you wait until you are thirsty to drink water then you have waited too long.

Stretching and Exercise: It is very important to do stretching exercises on a daily basis to maintain mobility and flexibility. It also helps to prevent injury when you engage in exercise. You should stretch your hamstrings, chest muscles, and shoulders to maintain good posture and then exercise on a daily basis doing something you enjoy such as walking, riding your bike, or doing the gardening. Whatever it is make sure you engage in movement every day.

Eat Breakfast: You may have heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that is because it really is. In order to get a jumpstart on your day eat a breakfast that is high in protein with a ratio of 4 to 1 carbohydrates and protein. Avoid cereals that are high in sugar and high fructose corn syrup.

Healthcare Law Means Changes For Nurse Management Jobs

A good example of the burdensome regulations applies directly to nurse management jobs. There is a provision in the law requiring medical facilities to allow breaks for employees who are also nursing mothers, in order to allow them time to express milk. For a nurse manager this presents a whole new set of problems.

For instance, the law states breaks must be “reasonable” in terms of length. But who decides what “reasonable” is? If one nursing mother can express her milk in 15 minutes while another takes 30, there will be questions about fairness and equal time. Then there’s the question of workers who have babies brought to the workplace to nurse rather than expressing milk and putting it in the refrigerator.

Just this one little regulation is already causing a lot of headaches for nurse managers. It provides further evidence that the health care overhaul is not all it’s cracked up to be.

Nurse Management Jobs Still Worthwhile

Despite the changes in the healthcare regulations, don’t be discouraged if you want to get into the healthcare field. Nurse management jobs are still very attractive for a variety of reasons. They offer excellent pay, a good working environment, and room for professional advancement.

Furthermore, working as a nurse manager brings with it a measure of personal satisfaction by being able to help make the lives of patients better. By your willingness to put your best foot forward your nursing staff will be encouraged to do the same and your patients will benefit.

You and Your Staff

To excel as a nurse manager requires a way of thinking that’s slightly different from what you did as an active floor nurse. In other words, before moving into management your primary focus was your patients. As a nurse manager you’re still focused on patient care, but you’re more focused on your staff as the vehicle to provide that care.

Nurse management jobs are therefore more about encouraging the success of your staff. When you’re nurses are doing well, so will your patients. When your nurses are not performing up to standards patient care will suffer.

Nurse Managers also have the added responsibility of representing their staff before upper management and other members of the healthcare team. This requires a certain amount advocacy which some nurse managers find difficult. Nonetheless, it’s part of building a solid team.

In the United States there is currently a significant shortage of nurses and nurse managers. There are nurse management jobs available in big cities, small towns, and through temporary staffing agencies. If you’re qualified and want to work, it’s out there for the taking.

Drink Beer – Stay Healthy

Because of the infamous beer belly which beer might cause, the drink has been perceived as bad-for-you beverage. However, numerous studies are pointing to the fact that beer might actually have many health benefits – hip hip hooray! Of course these health benefits could be achieved only through moderate drinking, because otherwise the overconsumption of beer (or any other alcoholic beverage for that matter) might cause liver damage, heart problems or even make you fat. In this article you can find what are some of the potential health benefits of your favourite drink.

Stronger Bones

There are high levels of silicon found in beer and they are directly linked to bone health. A study carried in 2009 proved that elderly men and women who drank a drink or two a day had higher bone density, especially those who chose wine or beer as their drink. However, drinking more than two drinks a day actually increase the likelihood of getting a bone fracture if you fall. The type of ale you consume is also important and in this case it is best if you drink pale beer, because it is the richest in silicon.

Healthier Kidneys

I don’t know about you, but if I drink even just one beer, almost instantly I get the urge to go to the toilet. And even though it is slightly annoying at times, it can be good for the kidneys. Beer is nearly 90% water and it can keep you hydrated, thus making your kidneys work. As a consequence, it can reduce the likelihood of developing kidney stones by 40%.

Beer Could Also Be Nutritious

Because it is made of hops, wheat and barley, beer has the same nutrients as grains do, including Vitamin B, zinc, riboflavin, niacin, etc. A bottle of beer could also contain potassium, phosphorous and calcium – minerals that are essential for a healthy diet. Moreover, it has been found that the beverage contains antioxidants too and it can keep your blood pressure and cholesterol in norm. However, don’t rely on beer to solely keep you healthy. Don’t forget that regular exercising will actually keep the beer belly away, so jogging, walking or even cleaning, as suggested by move out cleaning experts in Melbourne, are all important if you want to remain healthy.

Live Longer

Due to the lower rates of heart diseases, strokes and diabetes, it could be said that moderate drinkers could live longer. Moreover, the life expectancy could increase by up to two years if people can avoid imbibing.

But, once again, let me remind you – these benefits could be enjoyed only if you drink responsibly. Most experts suggest women to drink one beer a day, while men can have two.
